Looking to make women friends in Charleston without the usual apps? WatchMe is live 1:1 and small-group video chat in your browser. From downtown and King Street to Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Summerville, and nearby Orangeburg, you can open it from home. Choose women under "Show me", tap Randomizer for nearest-first matches, or join the all-women room. Nearby matches depend on who is online and eligible; local availability is not guaranteed. Charleston sits within about 70–80 miles of Orangeburg, part of the area WatchMe covers.
Lowcountry connections across the harbor
Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville are different communities connected by bridges and busy roads. A short straight-line distance across the harbor can mean a longer drive. WatchMe starts with a video conversation, so you can get acquainted from home without treating a nearby match as an in-person commitment.
Starting a conversation here
From the peninsula to West Ashley and James Island, local routines vary. A favorite beach day, a neighborhood market, or a Lowcountry food recommendation can open a conversation. The all-women room is shared across the service; it is not reserved for Charleston residents.
For women ages 18–30 in the region
This guide is written with women ages 18–30 in mind. Other adults are welcome. The app does not promise an age-specific local pool: choose who you see under Show me, and use the all-women room when that is the conversation you want. You can skip a call and manage blocked contacts in Settings.
Charleston is about 69.2 miles from Orangeburg using Census representative points. Road journeys are longer. See the 100-mile community directory for the wider region; nearby availability always depends on who is online and eligible.
What you can do
- You pick who you see: choose women, men, couples, trans women or trans men under "Show me" — Randomizer only pairs you with people you picked, closest first.
- An all-women group room, plus other group rooms of up to 5.
- Randomizer + skip: one tap pairs you with someone new; skip to move on.
- Type during a call: a silent chat box on the call screen, gone when the call ends.
- Friends tab: ring the friends you make, and message them.
Controls you keep on every call
- Block by phone number: add your ex, your boss or your family from your contacts; once they have added their number on WatchMe, you are never matched with them.
- Block and report in the call. Only the person who made a block can undo it — the blocked person never can.
- Screenshots and recordings through WatchMe need your OK, and everyone sees their own name stamped across the video, so an outside screenshot shows who took it.
- Your location is used only while you search, to sort the closest people first. It is never saved to your account, and other people only see a rough distance, never where you are.
WatchMe does not guarantee how anyone behaves, and WatchMe cannot prevent someone from using operating-system features, another device or other outside methods to capture a call. ID verification uses Stripe Identity; current signup requirements are shown in the app. ID verification is required to unlock referral earnings.
What it costs
Membership is $2 to start, then $1/month. A guest pass is $2 for 6 hours, and custom backgrounds are a one-time $1. Prices are charged in US dollars; your bank or card converts the amount and may add its own fees.
